  • white flour - 1 c
  • graham flour - 1 c
  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • molasses - 1/2 c
  • milk - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • seedless raisins optional - 1 c

How to make steamed brown bread:

Sift white flour with soda and salt; add sugar and graham flour. Add remaining ingredients; beat well. Half-fill 4 greased 1-pound fruit cans; cover tightly and steam 1 1/2 hours on rack in covered pan, using small amount of boiling water.

Uncover cans, place in very hot oven (450°) for 5 minutes; remove bread from cans.
