Steak and kidney pie
Ingredients/Components
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- carrots, sliced - 2 item
- onions, sliced - 2 item
- seasoned flour - 2 Tbsp
- pinch of dry mustard - 1 item
- frozen puff pastry, thawed
- frozen lima beans, thawed - 3 oz
- stewing steak
- button mushrooms - 4 oz
How to make steak and kidney pie:
Filling:1 lb. stewing steak pinch of dry mustard2 Tbsp. seasoned flour2 onions, sliced2 carrots, sliced4 oz. lamb's kidneys3 oz. frozen lima beans, thawed4 oz. button mushrooms Cut steak into cubes; discard excess fat. Add the mustard to flour and use to coat steak. Place in pan with onions and carrots. Just cover with water. Bring to a boil; cover and simmer gently for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until meat is tender; cool.Set oven to 425°. Trim and chop kidneys and place in pie dish with steak mixture, lima beans and mushrooms. Season to taste. Roll out pastry a little larger than top of dish. Cut a strip to cover edge of dish and cover with remaining pastry, sealing the edges with a little cold water. Flute the edges.
Make a small hole in center and decorate with leaves made from pastry trimmings. Brush with beaten egg. Bake 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 350° and bake 20 minutes more.
