  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • milk - 3/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • soda
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • hot water - 1/4 c
  • 4 oz - 4 sq
  • size pkg - 2 oz
  • mint flavoring or 2 to 3 drops oil of peppermint - 1/2 tsp
  • confectioners sugar, sifted 1 1/2 lb - 6 c
  • Chocolate Frosting mixture - 2 c
  • sifted plain flour if you use self-rising flour, omit soda and salt

How to make starlight double-delight cake:

Cake:1/4 c. shortening2 c. Chocolate Frosting mixture3 eggs2 1/4 c. sifted plain flour (if you use self-rising flour, omit soda and salt)1 1/2 tsp. soda1 tsp. salt3/4 c. milk Chocolate Frosting: Cream the cream cheese, vanilla and shortening. Add mint flavoring; blend well. (If desired, mint flavoring may be omitted and vanilla increased to 1 teaspoon.) Measure the sifted confectioners sugar; blend half of the sugar into cream cheese mixture. Add hot water alternately with balance of sugar. Blend in the melted chocolate; mix until smooth.

Cake: Combine the shortening and Chocolate Frosting mixture; mix thoroughly. Blend in eggs one at a time; beat for 1 minute. Sift together the plain flour, soda and salt. Add milk alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each addition. (With electric mixer, use low speed.) Pour into 2 well-greased and lightly floured 9-inch round layer pans at least 1 1/4 inches deep. Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool. Frost with remaining Chocolate Frosting.
