Ingredients/Components
- water
- pepper to taste - 1 item
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- bay leaves - 3 item
- smoked sausage - 3/4 lb
- ham hocks - 6 item
- carrot, cut up - 1 item
- dry split peas - 1 lb
- to 4 green onions, cut up - 2 item
- to 3 stalks celery, cut - 2 item
- pinch of rosemary, crushed - 1 item
How to make split pea soup:
Rinse peas and boil with water and ham hocks. Reduce heat to a slow boil; cover and cook 45 minutes. Add to pot, cut up vegetables and seasonings. Simmer for 2 hours. After 2 hours, remove ham hocks and set them aside. Place smoked sausage in soup and cook for 1/2 hour longer over low heat.Recipe categories: < 4 hours, Soups & stews, 3 steps or less.
