Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/8 c
  • salt - 1/2 Tbsp
  • flour - 3 3
  • soda - 1/4 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/8 c
  • warm water - 1/4 c
  • Parmesan cheese - 2 3
  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • dill seed - 1 Tbsp
  • dried onions - 2 tsp
  • spinach fresh or frozen - 1 item
  • Cool to lukewarm and add dill and onion
  • bacon, chopped fine - 1 item

How to make spinach bread:

Combine first 4 ingredients in saucepan and heat enough to melt shortening. Cool to lukewarm and add dill and onion. Measure warm water and yeast into large bowl and allow yeast to start to work. Add milk mixture and soda with flour; beat until smooth. Knead dough until smooth and elastic. Put into a greased bowl, cover and let rise until almost double in size. (Before dough is ready to roll out, fry bacon and chop real fine.) Roll out dough on flat surface.Filling: small container Ricotta cheese1 egg2 to 3 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese spinach (fresh or frozen) bacon, chopped fine Spread egg and Parmesan cheese on dough, top with Ricotta cheese. On top of cheese mixture, top with chopped bacon and spinach. Roll up like a jelly roll. Bake 45 minutes at 350°.
