Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water - 3 c
  • garlic salt
  • medium onion - 1 item
  • oregano - 2 tsp
  • parsley - 1 tsp
  • black pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • rice
  • 1/2 green peppers - 1 item
  • raw, chopped bacon pieces - 1 item
  • large can peeled and chopped tomatoes - 1 item

How to make spanish rice:

Peel, wash and dice onion on a chopping board. Wash, remove the core of seeds, and then dice green peppers on a chopping board. Measure water in a liquid measuring cup and place the water in a medium saucepan. Set the saucepan of water on the stovetop, and set the temperature dial to boil. Measure rice and place the rice in the saucepan of boiling water with salt. Cover the saucepan with a lid, set the temperature dial to a medium heat, and set the timer for 15 minutes.

Place bacon pieces in a frypan and place on the stovetop over a medium heat. (Turn the heat down as the bacon becomes more browned. You are the person to stay at the stove and watch the frypan until the bacon and vegetables are lightly browned.) Place the chopped onion and green pepper into the frypan with the bacon. Add tomatoes to the bacon mixture. Cover the frypan with a lid and simmer the tomatoes over a medium-high heat so that the tomato pieces begin to break apart and make a thick-like sauce.

Measure oregano, parsley, garlic salt and black pepper and add to the tomato mixture. Place the thickened sauce over the thoroughly cooked rice in the saucepan, and stir until all of the rice is coated with the tomato mixture. Place the rice in a serving bowl with a large spoon, and place on the serving table.
