  • Crisco shortening - 3 Tbsp
  • salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
  • onion, chopped - 1/2 item
  • rice - 1 c
  • can tomatoes - 1 item

How to make spanish rice:

Brown rice and onion in hot Crisco. Add juice from tomatoes and water to equal 2 cups liquid. Chop tomatoes. Add to rice. Salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 15 to 20 minutes.

Note: You may use chopped carrots for color, but just a little so it will not overpower flavor.
