  • salt
  • water
  • egg whites, beaten stiff - 2 item
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • butter, melted
  • white cornmeal - 2 c
  • egg yolks, lightly beaten - 2 item

How to make southern spoon bread:

Add cornmeal gradually to boiling water and let stand for a few minutes. Add butter, salt and yolks; add buttermilk. Fold in egg whites. Turn into a buttered casserole dish. Bake at 375° for 40 minutes.
