- salt
- water
- egg whites, beaten stiff - 2 item
- buttermilk - 1/2 c
- butter, melted
- white cornmeal - 2 c
- egg yolks, lightly beaten - 2 item
How to make southern spoon bread:
Add cornmeal gradually to boiling water and let stand for a few minutes. Add butter, salt and yolks; add buttermilk. Fold in egg whites. Turn into a buttered casserole dish. Bake at 375° for 40 minutes.Recipe categories: Breads, Side dish, Southern u.s..
