Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- flour - 1 c
- butter - 1 item
- water - 4 5
- powdered sugar
- warm water - 3/4 c
- yeast - 1 pkg
- corn oil - 1/2 c
- cinnamon sugar - 1 item
- instant potatoes - 3 Tbsp
- Sourdough Starter - 1 c
- Stir it around a little bit whenever you get the urge
- Evening: Put the starter in a large bowl and add the sugar, corn oil, salt and warm water
How to make sourdough starter:
To Feed Sourdough Starter:3/4 c. sugar3 Tbsp. instant potatoes1 c. warm water Mix in a medium bowl; cover bowl and leave in your kitchen in a warm place for at least 3 days. Stir it around a little bit whenever you get the urge. When it smells sour, it is ready.Put your starter in a jar with a lid. Do not fill over 3/4 full. Place it in refrigerator and it will keep forever.
To feed starter: Starter must be fed every 3 to 5 days. Remove starter from refrigerator and add sugar, potatoes and water. Mix well and let stand out of refrigerator all day. Remove 1 cup of starter to use in making bread. Keep remainder covered in refrigerator. If you are not making bread, give a cup away.Sourdough Bread:6 c. Pillsbury bread flour1 c. Sourdough Starter1/4 c. sugar1/2 c. corn oil1 Tbsp. salt1 1/2 c. warm water Variations: Dinner rolls or cinnamon rolls.
Evening: Put the starter in a large bowl and add the sugar, corn oil, salt and warm water. Stir in 6 cups bread flour, unsifted. Make a stiff batter. Knead into a lump; roll in corn oil and put in a large greased pan. Cover lightly with Saran Wrap. Leave on counter to rise overnight.
Morning: Punch dough down with fist and divide into 3 parts. Knead each part on a floured surface and put into a greased loaf pan. Makes 3 loaves. Brush with oil; cover lightly with Saran Wrap. Let rise on counter from 6 to 9 hours. Bake on bottom rack of oven at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and remove from pan.Cinnamon Rolls: Sourdough Bread (
