Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • warm water - 1/2 c
  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • lukewarm water - 2 c

How to make sourdough starter:

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup very warm water. Stir well. Add 2 cups lukewarm water, sugar and salt. Stir in flour and mix well. Put mixture into a jar. Cover with cloth and leave at room temperature 2 or 3 days, until mixture ferments. When it foams and bubbles, it's ready for use. Can be used at once or stored in the fridge. If stored in fridge, remove 24 hours before using.

After removing from fridge, add 1 cup lukewarm water, 1/2 cup flour and 3 teaspoons sugar for each cup of starter removed. Mix well; cover jar and let stand until ready to make bread again.
