  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • water - 1 c
  • oil - 2 Tbsp
  • unsifted flour - 4 c
  • warm water - 1/4 c
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg
  • starter - 1 c

How to make sourdough french bread:

Dissolve yeast in the warm water. Combine remaining ingredients; mix all together. Knead lightly on floured board. Place in a greased bowl to double in bulk, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Divide in 2 shaped loaves, about 8 x 12-inch. Let rise again. Brush top of loaves with water. Bake at 400° for 25 minutes.
