Sourdough bread and starter
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- water
- oil - 1/2 c
- warm water - 1 c
- bread flour
- starter - 1 c
- instant potatoes - 4 Tbsp
- envelope yeast - 1 item
How to make sourdough bread and starter:
Bread:6 c. bread flour1/2 c. sugar1 Tbsp. salt1 c. starter1/2 c. oil1 1/2 c. water Feed Starter (3 to 5 Days):3/4 c. sugar3 Tbsp. instant potatoes1 c. warm water For Starter: Mix in a glass jar or container. Cover loosely and let stand 24 hours at room temperature. Put in refrigerator for 3 to 5 days, then feed. After feeding, let stand at room temperature overnight or all day. Take out 1 cup starter. Store remaining in refrigerator until next feeding (3 to 5 days).For Bread: Combine all dry ingredients, then add oil, starter and water. Mix very well (you may have to use your hands). Let set in bowl all day or all night. Punch down. Knead well. Place in three loaf pans (greased). Let rise until double. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
