Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1 c
- cream of tartar - 2 tsp
- cinnamon and sugar, mixed - 1 item
How to make snickerdoodles:
Mix shortening, sugar and eggs thoroughly. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt and stir into shortening mixture. Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 400° for about 8 minutes, until lightly browned, but still soft. These cookies puff up at first, then flatten out with wrinkled tops. Makes 5 dozen.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cookie and brownie, Hand Formed cookies.
