Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • cream of tartar - 2 tsp
  • lard - 1/2 c
  • sugar plus 2 tsp - 4 Tbsp

How to make snickerdoodles:

Preheat oven to 400°. Use ungreased cookie sheets.

Sift flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar. Set aside.

Beat margarine and lard together until light. Add the sugar. Beat until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add sifted ingredients. Mix until well blended. Shape into 1-inch balls. If dough is sticky, chill in refrigerator. Roll balls in reserved cinnamon and sugar mixture. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet (will flatten as they bake). Bake at 400° for about 8 minutes. Yields 6 dozen.
