- Martha White two-cup all-purpose flour - 1 pkg
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- eggs - 3 item
- vegetable oil - 1 c
- sugar - 1 c
- pkg - 1 oz
- buttermilk - 1/2 c
- Strawberry or Buttercream Icing recipes follow - 1 item
- Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans
- confectioners sugar - 1 lb
- strawberry juice - 1/3 1/2
- Beat until creamy
- milk - 3 4
How to make simple strawberry cake:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans. Combine flour, salt and soda; set aside. Beat eggs in large mixing bowl. Add oil, sugar, gelatin and buttermilk; stir vigorously until well-blended. Add flour mixture and blend well.Drain 1/2 cup juice from strawberries; reserve for Strawberry Icing. Fold berries into batter. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven. Cool 5 minutes. Turn out of pan onto rack and cool completely. Frost with Strawberry or Buttercream Icing.Strawberry Icing:1/4 c. butter or margarine, softened1 lb. confectioners sugar1/3 to 1/2 c. strawberry juice Combine margarine and confectioners sugar; add strawberry juice until of desired spreading consistency. Beat until creamy.Buttercream Icing:1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened1 lb. confectioners sugar3 to 4 Tbsp. milk Combine butter or margarine and confectioners sugar; add milk until of desired spreading consistency. Beat until creamy.
