Shrimp gumbo
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 3
- flour - 6 Tbsp
- water - 5 6
- Worcestershire sauce - 1/2 tsp
- bay leaf - 1/2 item
- bell pepper - 1/2 c
- onion - 1/2 c
- okra - 1 c
- celery - 1/2 c
- dash of Tabasco - 1 item
- shrimp - 1 lb
- tomatoes - 2 3
- garlic - 1 item
- bacon drippings - 5 Tbsp
- black and red pepper to taste - 1 item
- gumbo file powder
How to make shrimp gumbo:
Brown flour in drippings to make golden roux. Add onion, celery, pepper and garlic until tender, but not brown. Add tomatoes, water, okra, Tabasco, salt, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaf, pepper and shrimp. Simmer about an hour. Remove a little liquid and stir file into it. Add to other. Careful not to boil after adding file as it will become stringy. Serve over rice.Recipe categories: Main dish, Gumbo, Stew.
