  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 6 Tbsp
  • water - 1 c
  • oil - 6 Tbsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 Tbsp
  • chopped celery - 1 c
  • cloves garlic, minced - 3 item
  • chopped onions - 2 c
  • basil - 1 tsp
  • chopped green onions - 1 c
  • tomato sauce - 16 oz
  • black pepper - 1 tsp
  • bay leaves - 2 item
  • cayenne pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • thyme - 1 tsp
  • chopped bell pepper - 1 c
  • peeled shrimp - 3 lb

How to make shrimp creole:

Heat oil in a large, heavy pot. Stir in flour and make a medium brown roux. Add onions, celery, bell pepper and green onions; saute until limp. Add garlic, tomato sauce, tomatoes, bay leaves, black pepper, thyme, basil, salt and cayenne. Cook for 15 minutes. Add Worcestershire sauce; simmer for about 20 minutes. This dish improves upon resting several hours.
