Shrimp creole
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- cornstarch - 2 tsp
- cold water - 1 Tbsp
- Crisco - 3 Tbsp
- clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 Tbsp
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- chopped celery - 1/2 c
- chili powder - 1/2 tsp
- can tomato sauce - 1 oz
- chopped green pepper - 1/2 c
- hot cooked rice - 3 c
- can tomatoes - 1 oz
- dash of Tabasco - 1 item
- dash of parsley - 1 item
- frozen, shelled shrimp, thawed - 12 oz
How to make shrimp creole:
In skillet, cook onion, celery, green pepper and garlic in hot Crisco until tender but not brown. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder and Tabasco sauce. Simmer uncovered for 45 minutes. Combine cornstarch with water; stir into sauce. Cook and stir until mixture thickens. Add shrimp; cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Spoon over hot rice.
