Ingredients/Components

  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • chopped celery - 1/2 c
  • clove garlic, minced - 1 item
  • shortening - 3 Tbsp
  • can tomatoes 2 c - 1 lb
  • can tomato sauce 1 c - 1 oz
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 Tbsp
  • chili powder - 1/2 tsp
  • dash of bottled hot pepper sauce - 1 item
  • cornstarch - 2 tsp
  • frozen shelled shrimp, halved - 12 oz
  • green pepper - 1/2 c

How to make shrimp creole:

Cook onion, celery and garlic in shortening until tender, but not brown. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce and next 5 ingredients; simmer, uncovered, 45 minutes. Mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon cold water. Stir into sauce. Cook and stir until mixture thickens. Add shrimp and green pepper. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. (Serves 6.)
