Ingredients/Components

  • butter or margarine - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • chopped green pepper - 1/2 c
  • cans tomato sauce - 3 oz
  • monosodium glutamate - 1/4 tsp
  • sliced mushrooms optional - 1/2 c
  • cooked shrimp, shelled and deveined or 3 7 oz - 1 to
  • bay leaf or pinch of dried basil if desired - 1 item

How to make shrimp creole:

If using canned shrimp, rinse in cold water and drain. Make sauce: Cook onion, green pepper and mushrooms in butter for 5 minutes; stir in flour, cook until bubbly. Add tomato sauce, salt, MSG, pepper and either bay leaf or dried basil. Cook about 10 minutes, toss in shrimp, bring sauce to boil, then simmer 5 minutes until shrimp are heated through. Serve over rice. Makes 6 servings. (To prepare in a casserole: Place shrimp in buttered casserole, add sauce, mix well. Heat at 350° for 30 minutes or until heated through.
