Ingredients/Components
- butter or margarine - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 1 Tbsp
- water - 1/2 c
- paprika - 1/8 tsp
- clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- hot cooked rice
- cayenne pepper - 1/8 tsp
- fresh shrimp*
- bay leaf, crumbled - 1 item
- canned tomatoes
- medium onion, sliced - 1 item
- diagonally sliced celery - 1 c
- medium green pepper, sliced - 1 item
How to make shrimp creole:
*Always buy the best fresh shrimp.In large deep skillet melt butter; add onion, green pepper and celery. Cook until onion is soft and green pepper is tender-crisp. Add bay leaf, tomatoes, water, salt, cayenne pepper, paprika and garlic. Simmer covered over low heat about 15 minutes. Mix flour with 2 tablespoons water to make a paste; add tomato mixture. Continue cooking until thickened. Add shrimp, stirring until warm and taste; add salt and more pepper if desired. Serve over cooked rice. Makes 4 servings.
