  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • brown sugar - 1 lb
  • baking soda - 1 Tbsp
  • boiling water
  • molasses - 1 c
  • oleo - 3/4 c

How to make shoo-fly cake:

Mix flour, brown sugar, salt and oleo into crumbs and remove 3/4 cup for top. Mix 2 cups boiling water with molasses. Mix baking soda with 1/4 cup boiling water and add to molasses mixture. Mix all things together by hand. Pour into ungreased 13 x 9-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
