Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • flour - 4 c
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • hot water - 2 c
  • baking molasses green label - 1 c

How to make shoo-fly cake:

Mix flour, sugar and shortening. Do not use beaters. Mix like pie crumbs in a large bowl. Save 1 cup of crumbs for top of cake. In another bowl, mix molasses, hot water and baking soda. Add to crumbs. Stir and put into a large greased and floured pan. Top with 1 cup of reserved crumbs. Bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes.
