Shepard's pie
Ingredients/Components
- Instant mashed potatoes for 6 people
- egg - 1 item
- ground beef - 1 lb
- onion chopped - 1 item
- frozen sliced carrots thawed - 2/3 c
- all purpose flour - 2 Tbsp
- shredded cheddar cheese - 1/2 c
- salt, divided - 2 tsp
- beef broth - 1 c
- pepper, divided - 1/2 tsp
How to make shepard's pie:
Cook potatoes according to directions. Cook beef and onion in large skillet over med-high heat stirring until it crumbles and loses its pink color. Drain, then return to pan. Add carrots (peas or corn can be substituted). Stir in flour, 1 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper. Add broth and cook, stirring until slightly thickened. Spoon into 11x17 inch lightly greased dish. Stir egg into potatoes along with remaining 1 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper. Spoon over beef mixture. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
