Ingredients/Components

  • flour
  • rolled oats
  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • baking powder - 1 Tbsp
  • cream of tartar - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • butter or margarine - 2/3 c
  • milk - 1/3 c
  • egg, lightly beaten - 1 item
  • raisins, chopped - 1/2 c

How to make scottish oat scones:

In a large bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt. Rub in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in raisins. Add milk and egg. Mix until just moist.

Shape dough into two equal sized balls. Pat lightly on floured surface to form two 6-inch circles about 5/8-inch thick. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Cut each circle into 6 wedges. Bake in preheated 450° oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown. Serve warm with butter, preserves or honey.
