Ingredients/Components

  • pork sausage - 3/4 lb
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • celery, chopped
  • onion, chopped - 1 c
  • carrot, chopped - 1/2 c
  • dry bread cubes - 9 c
  • large apple, cored and chopped - 1 item
  • sage, ground - 2 tsp
  • dried thyme, crushed - 1 tsp
  • parsley, chopped - 1/2 c
  • chicken broth - 3/4 c
  • each: salt and pepper - 1/2 tsp

How to make sausage apple stuffing:

In a large skillet, crumble sausage. Cook and stir until sausage is brown. Drain off all but 1/4 cup drippings. Add butter, celery, onion and carrot. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender. In a very large bowl, combine bread cubes, apple, sage, thyme, rosemary, parsley and sausage mixture. Toss lightly. Add enough broth to moisten. Add salt and pepper. Use to stuff 10 to 12-pound turkey.
