Ingredients/Components
- cup chopped nuts - 1 item
- cups flour - 2 item
- water - 1 Tbsp
- vanilla - 2 tsp
- cup soft shortening - 1/3 item
- cup brown sugar, packed - 1 item
- cups sifted flour - 6 item
- baking soda - 2 tsp
- each salt, allspice, ginger, ground cloves, cinnamon - 1 tsp
How to make sand tarts:
Chill dough. Roll out thick (3/8 inch). Cut with 2 1/2 inch round cutter or use shaped cutter if desired. Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 13 to 15 minutes. Cool on wax paper, turning after about 3 minutes (to keep bottom from getting moist). When finished with all, place in cookie jar. Mix pieces of fresh bread, torn 1/4 inch. This will soften and keep cookies moist. Will need to replace with fresh bread every 2 to 3 days.
