Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt - 4 tsp
  • shortening - 3 Tbsp
  • molasses - 4 Tbsp
  • warm water - 4 c
  • white flour - 5 c
  • rye meal - 6 c
  • dry yeast or 5 tsp - 2 pkg

How to make rye bread:

Mix all ingredients together to make a stiff dough. Knead on floured board. Let rise until doubled. Put into 3 greased loaf pans. Let rise until about doubled. Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
