  • flour - 3 c
  • sugar - 3 Tbsp
  • salt
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • egg - 1 item
  • soft yeast cakes - 2 item

Dissolve yeast cakes in 1/3 cup water to which 1 tablespoon sugar has been added. Put the shortening in hot milk and allow to cool. Then add the dissolved yeast and egg (not necessary to beat egg). Knead lightly for 3 to 5 minutes on floured board, using as little flour as possible. Cover with cloth and allow to stand 10 to 15 minutes. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place in well greased roll pan and brush lightly with melted butter. Allow to stand until doubled in size. Bake in moderate oven at 425° for 15 minutes. (Rolls can be served in 1 1/2 hours.)
