Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 5 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1 tsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 3 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 1 oz
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening and sugar slowly. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg. Add flavoring. Make paste of food coloring and cocoa. Blend in above ingredients. Sift dry ingredients together. Add dry ingredients slowly with above mixture, adding buttermilk slowly. Last part of buttermilk, add vinegar and then add to the mixture. Beat until smooth. Pour into 8 or 9-inch greased pans. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes.Icing:1 box powdered sugar1/2 c. shortening1 Tbsp. vanilla1/4 tsp. butter1/2 tsp. salt5 Tbsp. milk Blend 1/2 sugar with shortening. Blend in salt.
