- coconut - 1 c
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- pinch of salt - 1 item
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1 c
- cake flour
- pecans, chopped - 1/2 c
- bottles red food coloring - 2 item
- Cream shortening, sugar and eggs
How to make red velvet cake:
Make cream mixture of salt, vanilla, milk and flour; set aside. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make a paste with cocoa, vinegar and food coloring. Add to shortening-sugar mixture, then add the cream mixture. Mix well. Bake in three layers at 300° for 45 minutes.Filling:6 Tbsp. flour2 c. milk1 c. butter1/2 c. pecans, chopped2 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla1 c. coconut Cook flour and milk, stirring constantly, until thick. Let cool. Beat sugar, butter and vanilla. Add the flour mixture and beat until fluffy. Add the coconut and pecans.
