  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • butter - 1 c
  • soda - 1 Tbsp
  • cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • sweet milk - 1 c
  • red food color - 1 oz
  • Mix butter with sugar

How to make red velvet cake:

Make a paste of coloring and cocoa. Mix butter with sugar. Cream until light. Add eggs and beat 1 minute. Add coloring and cocoa to mixture with salt. Put vanilla in buttermilk. Put vinegar and soda in a cup; mix with buttermilk. Add to mixture with flour, sifted 3 times. Bake in 3 (9-inch) layer pans 20 to 30 minutes at 350°.Icing:5 Tbsp. flour1 c. sweet milk1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla1 c. butter Cook flour and milk; stir constantly until very thick, then cool. Cream butter and sugar. Add thick, cooled mixture and vanilla. Mix altogether on low speed of mixer. Frost all 3 layers.
