  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • butter - 1/4 lb
  • soda
  • cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • red food coloring - 2 oz

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Make a paste of the food coloring and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture. Mix baking soda and vinegar; fold into cake mixture. Do not beat. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes (check after 10 minutes).
