Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 3 Tbsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- nuts - 1 c
- sifted flour
- Crisco - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- sweet milk
- margarine 3 sticks
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one. Make paste of cocoa and coloring, then add to mixture. Add salt and flour (that has been sifted 3 times) and vanilla alternately with buttermilk. Mix completely and beat well, but do not beat soda and vinegar. Sprinkle soda over batter, then pour vinegar over it. Fold it thoroughly through the batter. Bake in layers at 350°.Frosting:1 c. coconut1 1/2 c. sweet milk1 1/2 c. margarine (3 sticks)1 1/2 c. sugar1 c. nuts1 tsp. vanilla3 Tbsp. flour Cook milk and flour until thick. Stir and cool. Cream sugar and butter. Add to flour mixture and beat. Add nuts, coconut and vanilla. Blend well.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, American.
