  • sugar - 3 c
  • eggs - 6 item
  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour - 3 c
  • Crisco
  • red food coloring - 1 oz

How to make red velvet cake:

Mix ingredients in this order: Crisco and sugar, then eggs, salt, food coloring, flour and milk alternately. Then add vanilla. Beat continuously while adding ingredients.

To make White Velvet Cake, omit color and add 2 tablespoons more milk. Bake in a tube pan at 325° for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
