- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 2/3 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 3 Tbsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 3 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sifted flour
- Crisco - 8 Tbsp
- red food color - 1 oz
- butter flavor - 1 tsp
- Red Velvet Frosting:1 stick butter
How to make red velvet cake:
Red Velvet Frosting:1 stick butter8 Tbsp. Crisco1 c. sugar3 Tbsp. flour2/3 c. milk1 Tbsp. vanilla Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and flavoring. Make a paste of cocoa and food color. Add to first mixture. Alternately add flour and buttermilk. Mix soda and vinegar in small bowl. Add to batter. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 350°.Mix all ingredients for frosting in bowl. Beat 12 minutes. Frost cooled cake.
