  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • flour
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • pinch of salt - 1 item
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • powdered sugar - 1 c
  • jars red food coloring - 2 oz
  • Add vanilla, cocoa, salt and eggs

How to make red velvet cake:

Beat shortening and sugar. Add vanilla, cocoa, salt and eggs. Beat together, add food coloring and 2 jars water. Add flour. Mix soda and vinegar and let settle. Add buttermilk then soda and vinegar. Beat well. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Cool and keep refrigerated.Frosting For Red Velvet Cake:3 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk pinch of salt2 tsp. vanilla1 c. shortening1 c. powdered sugar Cook flour, milk and salt until thick to make a sauce. Stir constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Cool. Beat shortening and powdered sugar until creamy. Add flour mixture. After cool, beat until like whipped cream. Makes enough for 2 layers.
