  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • stick butter - 1 item
  • dash of salt - 1 item
  • sifted cake flour
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • white vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • Quik chocolate drink mix - 3 Tbsp
  • Sift flour, salt and drink mix

How to make red velvet cake:

Preheat oven to 350°. Sift flour, salt and drink mix. Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Blend. Add food coloring and vanilla. Mix buttermilk, vinegar and soda. Add alternately with dry ingredients. Bake 30 minutes.Red Velvet Cake Icing:4 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk1 c. sugar1 stick butter1/2 c. shortening dash of salt1/4 tsp. vanilla Blend flour and milk. Cook until thick. Cool. Cream sugar, butter and shortening. Add salt and vanilla. Add cooked mixture and continue beating until fluffy.
