  • sugar
  • cream cheese - 8 oz
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • vanilla flavoring - 2 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • plain flour
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • box 4x sugar - 1 item
  • Make a paste of red coloring and cocoa

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Make a paste of red coloring and cocoa. Add to cream mixture. Add vanilla. Mix buttermilk in same cup as coloring. Use all clinging coloring. Sift flour, salt and soda together. Add to mixture; beat well. Fold in vinegar. Pour into 2 cake pans lined with greased wax paper. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.Icing:3/4 stick oleo8 oz. cream cheese1 box 4x sugar2 tsp. vanilla flavoring Cream ingredients together. As a layer is frosted, sprinkle with nuts.
