Ingredients/Components

  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • cocoa - 1 Tbsp
  • oil - 3/4 c
  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • red food coloring - 1 oz
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 3/4 c

How to make red velvet cake:

Preheat oven to 350°. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa into a large bowl. Cream oil, 1 1/2 cups sugar and eggs; add color to this. Combine buttermilk and soda; add to oil mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Add vinegar and vanilla; mix well. Bake 20 to 25 minutes. Bring 1/2 cup sugar and milk to boil; spoon over cooled cake before frosting with Cream Cheese Frosting.
