Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- vanilla flavoring - 1 tsp
- water - 1 oz
- egg yolks - 3 item
- coconut - 1 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- nuts - 1 c
- stick butter - 1 item
- plain flour
- shortening Crisco - 1 c
- bottle red food coloring - 1 oz
- chocolate cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- Add vanilla and salt
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add vanilla and salt. Mix water, cocoa and food coloring. Add to sugar mixture. Add buttermilk and flour slowly and beat. Add soda that has been dissolved in vinegar.Icing:1 c. evaporated milk3 egg yolks1 tsp. vanilla1 c. nuts1 c. sugar1 stick butter1 c. coconut Cook 12 minutes over medium heat. Stir constantly until thick. Add nuts and coconut. (Nuts may be left out of icing and spread between layers.) Makes 3 layers.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, American.
