Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- Crisco - 1/2 c
- red food color - 2 oz
- Add food color
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream Crisco and sugar. Add food color. Mix well. Add eggs, one at a time. Sift flour, cocoa and salt together 3 times. Alternate, adding with milk. Add vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in vinegar and fold into batter. Do not beat after adding soda!!! Bake at 350° for 30 to 45 minutes in a Bundt pan.Icing:1/4 tsp. salt1/4 c. flour1 c. milk1 c. sugar1 c. Crisco1/2 tsp. vanilla Mix salt, flour and milk and cook until thick. Let cool. Beat sugar, Crisco and vanilla into mixture. Frost cake.
