Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 2/3 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 3 Tbsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- powdered sugar - 1 c
- Crisco - 6 Tbsp
- red food coloring - 1/4 c
- cake flour
- instant cocoa powder Nestle Quik - 3 Tbsp
- Add eggs and coloring; beat 10 minutes
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs and coloring; beat 10 minutes. Add buttermilk and slowly add the flour. Add salt, vanilla and cocoa. Remove bowl from mixer and add by hand, mixing lightly, the vinegar and soda. Grease and flour pan before adding mixture. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.Frosting:1/4 lb. butter (one stick)6 Tbsp. Crisco1 c. powdered sugar3 Tbsp. flour2/3 c. milk1 tsp. vanilla Cream well, butter, Crisco and sugar. Add flour, one tablespoon at a time, milk and vanilla.
