Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 Tbsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1 c
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- cake flour, sifted
- red food color - 2 oz
How to make red cake:
Icing:5 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk1 c. butter1 c. sugar1 Tbsp. vanilla Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make paste of food coloring and cocoa. Add buttermilk alternately with flour and salt. Add vanilla. Combine soda and vinegar. Blend with mixture. Bake in 3 layers at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.Icing: Cook flour and milk until thick. Cool. Cream shortening and sugar. Add vanilla. Beat. Add to cooled mixture. Put icing between layers as well as on outside of cake.
