Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- oleo - 1 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- sour milk or buttermilk - 1 c
- Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy
How to make red cake:
Add vinegar to soda. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix milk with vanilla and food coloring. Add to creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Stir in soda and vinegar. Bake in 9-inch layer cake pans at 350° for 30 minutes.Frosting:3 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk1 c. oleo1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla Cook flour and milk until thick. Cool. Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla.
