Raisin bread



  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • lukewarm water
  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt
  • egg, well beaten - 1 item
  • flour - 5 c
  • raisins - 3/4 c
  • melted shortening - 1/4 c

How to make raisin bread:

Soften yeast in lukewarm water. Add sugar, salt, melted shortening and egg. Add raisins and flour beating thoroughly after each addition until soft dough is formed. Cover with a warm damp cloth and allow to double in bulk. Work down and form into 2 loaves. Place in well-oiled pans. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Allow to double in bulk. Bake at 350°.
