- granulated sugar - 1 c
- salt - 1/3 tsp
- chopped nuts - 1/2 c
- butter - 1/4 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- chopped dates - 1 c
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- boiling water - 1 c
- sifted flour
- cream - 10 Tbsp
- beaten egg - 1 item
- coconut and nuts - 1 item
- Let stand while the following is mixed in the usual manner: sugar, butter, egg, flour, vanilla, salt, baking powder and nuts
How to make queen elizabeth cake:
Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 cup chopped dates and add soda. Let stand while the following is mixed in the usual manner: sugar, butter, egg, flour, vanilla, salt, baking powder and nuts. Add these ingredients to the date mixture. Pour into a 9 x 12-inch pan. Bake 35 minutes at 350°.Icing:10 Tbsp. brown sugar10 Tbsp. cream4 Tbsp. butter coconut and nuts Boil first 3 ingredients for 6 minutes. Spread on cake when cooled. Sprinkle top of icing with coconut and nuts.Note: This is supposed to be the only cake the Queen makes. Her only request is that it is not to be passed on, but sold for charitable purposes.
