Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • butter - 1/4 c
  • soda - 1/2 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vegetable oil - 1 c
  • sifted cake flour - 2 c
  • white syrup - 1 Tbsp
  • eggs unbeaten - 3 item
  • salt more if desired - 1/4 tsp
  • each: soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice - 1 tsp
  • chopped stewed prunes - 1 c
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating between additions

How to make prune cake:

Blend sugar and oil. Add eggs, one at a time, beating between additions. Add vanilla, then alternately, the dry ingredients and milk. Stir in prunes and nuts. Bake in an 11 x 8 x 2-inch pan for 1 hour at 325°.Topping:1 c. sugar1/2 c. buttermilk1/2 tsp. soda1 Tbsp. white syrup1/4 c. butter1/2 tsp. vanilla Cook in large pan on low heat without stirring to soft ball stage. Pour hot onto hot cake.
