Poppy seed cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- egg yolks - 5 item
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- margarine - 3/4 c
- poppy seed - 1/2 c
- stiffly beaten egg whites - 5 item
- warm milk
How to make poppy seed cake:
Filling:3/4 c. sugar1/4 tsp. salt2 Tbsp. cornstarch5 egg yolks1 1/2 c. warm milk1 tsp. vanilla Soak poppy seed in boiling milk; let sit for 2 hours, room temperature. Cream sugar and margarine. Add alternately the poppy seed mixture and blended dry ingredients. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in greased 9 x 13-inch pan between 30 and 45 minutes at 350°. Combine dry ingredients and add eggs and milk. Cook until thick in double boiler and stir often as it will get lumpy. I whip mine with a whip. When thick add 1 teaspoon vanilla and stir. Cool in refrigerator covered with Saran Wrap. Spread over cake when cool.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, < 15 mins.
