Poppy seed bread
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- milk
- salt
- flour - 3 c
- almond extract - 2 tsp
- baking powder
- vegetable oil
- powdered sugar - 3/4 c
- poppy seed
- eggs, slightly beaten - 3 item
- orange juice concentrate, thawed
How to make poppy seed bread:
Orange Glaze:1/4 c. orange juice concentrate, thawed3/4 c. powdered sugar1/2 tsp. vanilla1 tsp. almond extract Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour 2 loaf pans. Beat together eggs, sugar, oil and milk in medium bowl. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Beat in egg mixture; stir in poppy seed and almond extract. Divide batter into prepared loaf pans. Bake for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.Meanwhile, prepare the glaze. Combine orange juice concentrate, powdered sugar, vanilla and almond extract in small bowl until glaze is a good spreading consistency. (Use pastry brush to apply the glaze.)
Cool breads in pans 10 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks. Place wax paper under racks. While bread is still warm, spread glaze over tops of bread. Let cool. The bread is better if made a day before. Store at room temperature.
